Hawthorn Boroondara Cricket Club (HBCC) came into existence on 24 April 2024 when the Registrar of Incorporated Associations formally approved the amalgamation of the Hawthorn Cricket Club (HCC) and the Boroondara Cricket Club (BCC) to form HBCC.

The first office bearers of HBCC are Graeme Yole (President), Mark Poustie (Vice-President), Leigh Simpson (Treasurer) and Jason Povey (Secretary). Our inaugural first XI captain is Nathan Douglas and our coaching staff comprise Rob Tongue as Head coach and Neil Gray and Michael Yole as assistant coaches.

HBCC club headquarters is Rathmines Road Reserve and our junior headquarters and training base is Victoria Road Reserve.

This begins a new chapter in the proud history of our parent clubs. Brief histories of HCC and BCC follow. Detailed histories of HCC and BCC are set out in separate sections of this website. Thank you to David Hayden (HCC) and Michael Bingley (BCC) for their respective efforts in compiling the detailed histories.

HCC dates back to 1947 when it was formed as West Hawthorn Cricket Club. The club initially played at Fairview Park on the banks of the Yarra, then moved to a turf wicket at Burke Road South Reserve for the 1949/50 season. In 1972 the club merged with Hawthorn District to become West Hawthorn District Cricket Club; the club reverted to its old name 2 years later. West Hawthorn moved its base to Rathmines Road Reserve in 1989 and adopted the name Hawthorn Cricket Club for the 2002/3 season.

BCC was founded on 26 July 1938 and played at Highfield Park in Camberwell. In 1980 the club merged with Riversdale Cricket Club to become Riversdale Boroondara Cricket Club. In 1999 Kooyong Cricket Club joined with Riversdale Boroondara Cricket Club and the club moved to Victoria Road Reserve, East Hawthorn. At that time, the name of the club reverted to Boroondara Cricket Club.

Hawthorn Boroondara Cricket Club has adopted the 'Hawks' logo and identity, synonymous with our suburb of Hawthorn and a fitting representation of our goal of being the home of community cricket in Hawthorn.
